• Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique helps move their bodies in a more natural, relaxed, and comfortable way. This is especially helpful for musicians as we rely on our bodies to perform.

The music department has done several professional developments focused on Alexander Technique.

Here are some performance tips we have learned:

    • Instead of "sitting up," think about lengthening your spine.
    • Balance your head on your shoulders.
    • Release all tension when playing. Take a deep breath before playing.
    • Allow your body to sink into your chair. Sink into your instrument using weight- not pressure.
    • Do not use unecessary muscles.

*We will discuss each of these tips in rehearsals and lessons.
