Sophomore year

  • Keep in mind this is a list of activities the counselor must do with all students. Many of these responsibilities such as IEP’s and 504’s may be ongoing throughout the entire year. Also know, the counselors are still available for individual meetings throughout the year by appointment.

     

    September:

    -          Resolve Schedule conflicts during beginning of the month.

    -          Individual “get to know” sessions with sophomores.

    October:

    -          Students are introduced to Naviance

    -          Career interest inventory is done with students in the computer lab

    -          Career and college fairs as well as PSAT info is discussed with sophomores

    November:

    -          Parent/teacher night

    -          Parent/teachers introduced to Naviance

    December:

    -          Review the progress of At-risk students

    -          Meet with sophomores who have taken PSAT to go over scores

    January:

    -          Tech interest visit

    -          ESL Parent Night

    -          Comprise “At risk” list

    -          Update IEP goals

    February:

    -          CSE/504’s meetings

    -          Scheduling 2 weeks in lab, classes for junior year

    -          BOCES tech visit

    April:

    -          Start resume through Naviance

    -          Review progess of at risk students

    -          Individual sophomore meetings begin

    -          Meet with at risk student to review their options

    May:

    -          Individual Sophomore meeting

    -          Update IEP goals

    June:

    -          Review class choices for junior year

    -          Meet with case managers during regents week to ensure proper placement for those with IEP’s

    -          Grades are sent out

    -          Summer school recommendations are sent.

    -          Adjust schedules for class failures
