Common Core

  • What is Common Core?

CCLS is a national effort to establish a single set of clear, educational standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics.

The standards are benchmarked to international standards to guarantee that our students are competitive in the emerging global marketplace.

Why is the Common Core important?

High standards that are consistent across the states provides teachers, parents and students with a set of clear expectations that we can work toward together.

What does this mean for my child?

Your child will be reading more non-fiction than previous in addition to fiction.  They will often be asked, "Why?" and will need to support their answer with clear reasons or evidence from a text.  For math, they will be asked to Read, Draw and Write to solve real world math problems.
