Instrumental Music

  • Welcome to Instrumental Music! All students here at Hendrick Hudson have the opportunity to study a musical instrument. The instrumental music program for grades 4 and 5 is available as an optional program within the school day.

The students participate in a 30-minute, small group lesson once a week. These lessons will rotate so that the students will attend lessons at a different time each week.  In these lessons the students will learn the skills needed to perform their different instruments.  They will work together collaboratively to develop a repertoire of music from a wide variety musical styles.  The students will have the opportunity to perform in both solo and ensemble settings.  The band and the string orchestra will perform in winter and spring concerts for their families and the community.

Through instrumental music instruction, the students will develop skills that will help them throughout life.  Many studies have shown the link between music education and overall success in school and life.  We welcome all students who have chosen to participate in the program.  We hope it will be a rewarding experience for all.

    Concert Attendance Policy

All music students are required to perform at their assigned concerts as a part of the music curriculum.  Concerts are treated as final exams, and students who fail to attend a concert may have their grade negatively impacted. In the event of an absence, the student may receive an alternate assignment
