Time Capsule
There are records of several time capsules being placed throughout the district over the years. The 1927 time capsule at the Hendrick Hudson High School is the earliest we know of at this time.
1927 Time Capsule Details
The following is an excerpt from an article about the cornerstone laying ceremony in the April 11, 1927 issue of The Evening Star, Peekskill, New York:
President A. J. Cole then laid the cornerstone, behind which was placed a large copper box in which many valued articles and clippings were placed.
Articles in Box
In this box were the following:
- Names of all the children in the district, as well as those of the teachers. The names were placed in the box as follows:
- Verplanck Point Grammar School, by Riga Nolan
- Montrose Grammar School, by Charles Boresky
- Buchanan Grammar School, by Anita Keogh
- Hendrick Hudson High School, by Kenneth Gallaher, president of the Senior Class
- Members of the School Orchestra, by David Cole
- Members of the Hendrick Hudson H. S. Girls’ Glee Club, by Mary Burns, the president
- Names of members of the Board of Education
- Official program of the cornerstone laying
- Copies of The Evening Star, The Highland Democrat, and The Daily Union, containing articles relating to the proposed cornerstone laying
- Names of all workmen who have worked on the building to the present date
- Pictures of the Board of Education at the breaking of the ground
- Picture of the property before the school was started.
