• Hello and Welcome to English as a New Language Class!

If your child is in this class, he or she took a test called the NYSITELL that indicated your child needs assistance learning English.  My job as an ENL teacher is to teach your child to read, write, listen, and speak in English.  My main concern is to create a comfortable and safe classroom environment for your child so that he or she will take the risks necessary to communicate with other students, teachers, and the community.  I believe that children learn best when they are engaged, so I often use songs, games, and technology to hold their interest.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.  You may reach me by email at deborah.levy@henhudschools.org or you may call me at (914)257-5400.

How can you help your child at home?  The best way to help your child is to read to him or her.  You can read in your native language or in English.  If your child is excited about books, it will help him or her learn to read and to read more challenging books as he or she advances.  To learn about more ways to help your child, please visit the links on this website.

Special Note For 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Parents: Your child has received a Samsung Tablet to use for the remainder of the school year.  I have downloaded many apps for English Language Learners, including Reading A to Z, vocabulary and verb games, reading comprehension, and math fact games.  It would be helpful for your child to practice English on these apps for a few minutes each night.

I consider it a privilege to teach your children, and I take their education very seriously.  At the same time, I look forward to getting to know each of them personally and to having fun along the way.
