Located along the Hudson River in Westchester County, NY, the Hendrick Hudson School District serves approximately 2,300 students in five schools: Buchanan-Verplanck, Frank G. Lindsey and Furnace Woods Elementary Schools for grades K-5; Blue Mountain Middle School for grades 6-8; and Hendrick Hudson High School for grades 9-12. Geographically, the district comprises Buchanan, Verplanck, Crugers, Montrose, and portions of Cortlandt Manor, Croton-on-Hudson and Peekskill.
National surveys of top American school districts regularly include the Hendrick Hudson School District in their rankings. U.S. News and World Report has included the district among the 100 best in New York State, and Hendrick Hudson High School was designated a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished School in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The district offers a comprehensive technology plan integrated into K-12 instruction, a full-day kindergarten program and a balanced assessment program. Programs are provided that meet the needs of all of our students, including a full continuum of special education services, enrichment programs, after-school clubs and activities and summer programs.
Hendrick Hudson High School’s rigorous and relevant curriculum includes 24 Advanced Placement courses and 17 college-level classes. These include partnerships with Rochester Institute of Technology, The University at Albany and Syracuse University. Students can pursue challenging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics through the school’s Science Research Program and PLTW tracks in Biomedical Science, Engineering and Computer Science.
Students from kindergarten through high school are immersed in the performing and visual arts, with concerts, performances and art exhibits presented throughout the school year. Blue Mountain Middle School offers students the opportunity to take Advanced Studio Art and work in the school’s innovative Makerspace. At the high school, students can take traditional art classes, as well as courses in digital media art and 3D design. Each year, the high school inducts talented art students into the National Art Honor Society.
Hendrick Hudson High School’s athletic teams have Sectional, Regional and State Championships to their names and can boast of an impressive number of Con Ed Scholar Athlete and New York State Scholar Athlete Team awards. This fall, the district welcomed its student athletes and the community to a brand-new track and field facility, part of the district’s ongoing capital improvements project.
Year after year, Hendrick Hudson High School graduates head to top tier colleges and universities across the country. At the same time, local residents’ property taxes are among the lowest in the region, making the district’s high quality education a great value.
