Blue Mountain Middle School Hosts Annual Memorial Garden Ceremony

As students at Blue Mountain Middle School returned from Memorial Day break, they participated in the annual Memorial Garden Ceremony on May 28, 2024.

The Memorial Garden was created by students and teachers in 1986 and has been cared for in the 38 years since. It honors the memory of students and staff who have passed away while they attended or worked at Blue Mountain. The Memorial Garden also honors armed service members and community service members as well as the victims of school tragedies.

The area has been maintained this school year by members of the Garden Club, which is led by advisors Amy Deegan, Dara Manse and Danielle Sugerman. The club has met every Tuesday and Friday during lunch (weather permitting) since the fall. There were also a handful of after-school gardening sessions as well as Blue Mountain’s first Beautification Day on May 4 — a gathering supported by the Garden Club and the PTA.

“There have been countless students who have created this garden with the guidance of Blue Mountain teachers,” Ms. Sugerman said. “By coming together to acknowledge this community effort, we hope our students, staff and community are proud of the work well done and the positive mark left at our school. This Memorial Garden will be here for each one of us to come back to visit and recall fond memories. It is, indeed, a special place.”
