Five Hendrick Hudson Theatre Students Earn Metro Award Nominations

During a nomination ceremony at the Tarrytown Music Hall on Tuesday, May 14, the Hendrick Hudson High School Theatre Department received five nominations for the 2024 Metro Awards. The Metros, which are produced by Nyack’s Helen Hayes Youth Theater, will be presented June 10 at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College.

The Metros — the local high school equivalent of the Tony Awards — celebrate outstanding achievements in high school theatre productions in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Bergen counties. This year, 63 schools participated during the musical season, including Hendrick Hudson.

Hendrick Hudson’s production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” earned nominations in the following five categories:

Vocal Performance by a Female-Identifying Performer — Mia O’Malley as Ariel
Dance Performance by a Male-Identifying Performer — Cameron Haynes as Scuttle
Featured Role — Addison Valentino as Flounder
Comedic Performance by a Male-Identifying Performer — Jordan Cobb as Chef Louis
Student Critic — Castalia Litos

There were four performances of “The Little Mermaid” in March. Clare Carey served as Theatre Director and Erica Denler as the Musical Director.

Carey offered her appreciation to Hendrick Hudson staff and community members for supporting the show.

“Thank you all for your continued support of this very important program that Mrs. Denler and I are so passionate about,” Carey said.
