Hendrick Hudson Senior Selected for All-State Music Festival

Hendrick Hudson senior Alec Elkin was selected for the NYSSMA All-State Music Festival.

Hendrick Hudson High School is proud to have a student musician earn one of the highest accolades a high school musician can achieve. Senior Alec Elkin was selected to attend the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Music Festival. Elkin will serve as a member of the 2024 All-State Mixed Choir.

Many high school musicians like Elkin prepare all year to be adjudicated on their New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo performance. If the student receives a perfect score on a solo performance in the Level 6 category – the most challenging level — that person is then recommended by the judge for the NYSSMA All-State Conference.

Due to his selection, Alec will travel to Rochester in December to sing with some of the best scholastic singers from New York state. He will rehearse 12 hours each day  under the direction of renowned conductor, Dr. Andrea Ramsey, and then perform with the chorus in a concert. The event will take place in what Hendrick Hudson’s Director of Choral Music, Erica Denler, called “one of the most exquisite performance spaces” – Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater at the University of Rochester.

“It’s exciting every year to bring our amazingly talented Hen Hud students to All-State,” Denler said. “Every year, as I watch our students up on that beautiful stage at the Eastman School of Music, making music with the best of the best, and working under the talented hands of renowned conductors, I am always moved to tears. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these young men and women will carry with them forever. I am so pleased to teach in a district that fully supports the arts and happily provides our students with these incredible opportunities.”
