With an Honor Restored, Six Students Recognized for Journalism Excellence

During a Hendrick Hudson High School PTSA meeting on Monday, May 13 in the school library, six students were inducted into Quill & Scroll’s International Honorary Society for High School Journalists.

Francisco Aguirre-Ghiso, Kacie Burns, Elaine Clarke, Castalia Litos, Emily McGrath and Aidan Schneider were not only recognized for their induction, they ended a long period of dormancy for Hen Hud student journalists. Matthew Codner, an English teacher who serves as the advisor of “The Anchor,” the school’s student newspaper, learned through research that Hendrick Hudson held a lifetime charter with Quill & Scroll since 1949, but he was told the school had not inducted any students in at least the last 25 years.

Mr. Codner’s attempts to locate the Quill & Scroll plaque and banner were unsuccessful. The HHHS PTSA provided a grant to replace the school’s banner and plaque and to induct the students.
