Assemblymember Levenberg Secures CREST Grant to Benefit Hendrick Hudson Security

As she was guided through the halls of Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School by a second-grade student, Dana Levenberg had a chance to observe Hendrick Hudson students learning — first in the library, then in a classroom.

During the visit, Levenberg, who represents the 95th district in the New York State Assembly, was able to meet the very students who will benefit from a $100,000 CREST grant she helped secure for the Hendrick Hudson School District. The Assemblymember presented the check to Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee, Principal Dr. Cynthia Kramer, other district administrators, PTA officers, Board of Education trustees, and a number of Buchanan-Verplanck students.
“Thank you for your efforts and your advocacy on behalf of this district,” Mr. Tromblee said to the Hendrick Hudson stakeholders in attendance. “And thank you to Assemblymember Levenberg for your continued support for Hendrick Hudson.”
Levenberg’s visit began when she met with kindergarten students in Marisa D’Itri’s class. The class held up pictures welcoming her to the school, then several students presented her with gifts from the class and from the district.
From there, Ms. Levenberg was led on a tour by second grader Hannah Palmer, who led her through the hallways, past the library and into a first-grade classroom. The Assemblymember then observed the WIN period in Marilyne Strang’s class, with several students describing what they were learning.
Finally, the visit ended back in the school lobby, when the Assemblymember presented students and district leaders with a novelty check, signifying the grant.
The funds will be used to purchase new video security equipment and to help repair existing equipment throughout the district.
