For members of the Class of 2025, Tuesday, Sept. 3 marked what Principal Lauren Scollins dubbed their last first day at Hendrick Hudson High School. That label guided Principal Scollins’ opening remarks during a classwide opening-day assembly in the school auditorium — one that featured a special guest: New York State Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg.

Levenberg, who represents District 95, which houses the Hendrick Hudson School District, wished the seniors good luck to begin their final year of high school. She encouraged them to remain diligent all the way through graduation and highlighted her efforts to help improve the student experience for current and future Sailors.

Levenberg recently secured a $100,000 CREST Grant for Hendrick Hudson; the grant will help fund capital projects in the school district.

“I will continue to fight for funding for the Hendrick Hudson School District,” said Levenberg, who also encouraged eligible students to register to vote. “I want to ensure you have everything you need to be successful here.”

Scollins then discussed the opportunities that await Hendrick Hudson’s seniors. She said the students will have input on how they are assessed, how staff members can help them feel more connected to the school and community, and whether they could benefit from changes to the schedule, grading, and more.

Said Scollins: “Your voice needs to be heard.”

The senior assembly was one of four held at Hendrick Hudson High School on opening day. Each class had its own assembly to help establish a positive tone for the 2024-25 school year.
