Blue Mountain’s Partners Program Creates Holiday Cards

Blue Mountain Middle School’s Partners club focuses on social and emotional learning and emphasizes community service and friendship. This week, that mission took shape in a thoughtful project: creating holiday cards for law enforcement officers to express students’ gratitude and support.
The Partners club, led by teachers Diana Lore and Alyssa Cavarretta, designed the cards to be submitted to Beyond the Badge, an organization that supports families of fallen police officers. Each year, Beyond the Badge collects handmade cards from across New York State and distributes them to police departments during he holidays.
At this week’s well-attended Partners meeting, Blue Mountain students proudly contributed to that statewide effort.
“One of the most beautiful things about this activity is watching our students exhibit so much care and compassion for others,” Mrs. Lore said. “The cards are meant to promote mental wellness for our officers and it also promoted mental wellness for everyone in the room. It is a powerful reminder of Helen Keller’s words: ‘The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched — they must be felt with the heart.’”
