Cultural and Holiday Celebrations, Flag Designs Highlight Busy Fall for Art Classes

It has been a busy and creative fall in the art rooms at Hendrick Hudson High School!

To celebrate the season in Ms. Nash's classes, students created group sculpture projects and sampled foods connected to fall celebrations around the world, including tangerines, which are considered good luck at East Asian harvest festivals; candy for Halloween; and cookies/crackers for Día de los Muertos.
Students also completed a New York State flag design project for the New York Art Education Association using the theme, “The World Needs Art.” (See one example below.)
“Students created original designs and discussed why art matters — to express emotions, tell stories, bring people together, solve problems creatively, and reflect different cultures,” Ms. Nash said.
As a fun school-wide challenge, students throughout the school joined the high school art classes in a Hand Turkey Creativity Contest. Prizes were awarded to the top three most original and well-crafted designs.
