Dr. William X. Toro Named New Principal of Blue Mountain Middle School

The Hendrick Hudson School District is pleased to announce that Dr. William X. Toro has been selected as the new principal at Blue Mountain Middle School. Dr. Toro's appointment will be made official during the Wednesday, June 18, 2025 Board of Education meeting, which will be held in the Blue Mountain Middle School library beginning at 7 p.m.

Dr. Toro joins Hendrick Hudson after serving seven years as a middle school and high school assistant principal at the in the Peekskill City School District. He will replace Anthony Giovinazzi, who will retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year.

"Dr. Toro brings a strong, student-centered vision to Blue Mountain Middle School, one rooted in his own powerful journey through education," Hendrick Hudson Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee said. "His commitment to thoughtful and collaborative leadership style, and his track record of working closely with staff to enhance supports and enrichment opportunities, make him an ideal fit for our school community. We are excited to welcome him to the Hendrick Hudson team."

"It is with great excitement and gratitude that I join the Hendrick Hudson family as the new principal of Blue Mountain Middle School," Dr. Toro said. "I am truly honored to lead a school with such a strong reputation for excellence and to work alongside such dedicated and talented educators."

Dr. Toro is a native of Long Island. The proud son of Colombian immigrants, he was the first member of his family born in the United States.

"Spanish was my first language, and my early educational experiences shaped not only who I am today but also inspired me to become an educator," Dr. Toro said. "I was fortunate to have teachers who inspired me, and I've dedicated my career to creating those same opportunities for others."

Dr. Toro holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Saint Joseph's University, a Master's degree in Liberal Studies and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership from Stony Brook University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. John's University. His career in education began as a high school math teacher in the Brentwood Union Free School District and later continued at Michelangelo Middle School in the Bronx. After eight years in the classroom, Dr. Toro moved into administrative roles, first serving as an assistant principal of Bronxwood Preparatory Academy before joining Peekskill in his most recent roles.

During his seven years in Peekskill, Dr. Toro led several major initiatives, including the transition from an eight-period day to nine periods, which allowed the district to expand electives, introduce foreign language classes to all sixth graders, and increase access to accelerated courses in all grades. Dr. Toro collaborated closely with staff to implement new programs and develop professional learning communities. He also launched a schoolwide ID card system and a digital hall pass platform, and served as the lead administrator for after-school academic and enrichment programs.

"That experience allowed me to build strong partnerships with community organizations in order to provide dynamic and real-world opportunities for our students," Dr. Toro said.

Outside of school, Dr. Toro is a husband, a father to three daughters, and has two dogs.

"My family keeps me grounded, energized and constantly learning," he said.
