Fifth-grade students in Megan Boyle’s STEAM class at Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School recently had an opportunity to learn about 3D printing. Ms. Boyle and the district’s K-12 Instructional Technology Facilitator, Nicole Stabell, co-taught a lesson on how to use Tinkercad to create three-dimensional emojis.

“The students were so creative,” Ms. Boyle said. “They took the initiative to change the eyes and mouth to create unique emojis.”

The lessons provided the students — who will begin sixth grade at Blue Mountain Middle School in September — valuable exposure to some of the tools they will use in the middle school’s visual arts program.

“It was also a great way to review 3D geometry concepts and common vocabulary,” Ms. Stabell said.
