Frank G. Lindsey Fifth Graders are Ready for Middle School
Our fifth graders are officially Blue Mountain Middle School-bound!
Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School held a Moving Up Ceremony on Monday, June 23 on the blacktop behind the school, where family and friends saw the fifth graders receive their certificates for completing elementary school in the Hendrick Hudson School District.
Principal Jim Mackin hosted the ceremony, which was attended by Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee, Board of Education President Erica Mills, Vice President Amelia Silverman, and Trustees Cori Boudin, Tomica Dietrich and Lauren Stanco.
The event began with a procession of the students, followed by student Simone Bare reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and classmates Madison Madris and Giuliana Geno singing the Star-Spangled Banner.
Mr. Mackin then praised the attendees who attended the event for braving the extreme heat but also for their dedicated support of the fifth graders being celebrated. He then thanks the teachers and staff for their commitment to the students and offer words of encouragement to the students themselves.
“To our fifth graders: As you step forward into this new chapter, remember that you carry with you not just knowledge from your classes but also the courage to try new things, the compassion to help others and the determination to keep going — even on the hottest days,” Mr. Mackin said. “Congratulations, Class of 2025! We are so proud of you.”
D.A.R.E. officers, who had worked with the fifth graders during the school year, provided brief words of encouragement and congratulations. Mr. Mackin then acknowledged the retirement of teacher Diane Hughes, a valued and essential member of the fifth-grade team.
Mrs. Hughes and her colleagues had the honor of reading the names of students, who each shook Mr. Mackin’s hand as they received their certificates. On the way back to their seats, they also received swag bags from the Fifth Grade Committee, which also provided decorations and refreshments for the event.
After the children received one last round of applause from their family members and friends, our Frank G. Lindsey students are onto their next stop: middle school!
