Hen Hud's Marcia Bailey to be Inducted into Coaches Hall of Fame
Hendrick Hudson High School’s track and field coach Marcia Bailey will be inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024 at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York City.

The Armory — a 65,000-square-foot arena with an Olympic-caliber track — is one of the premier track and field facilities in the country and houses the “Hall of Fame Atrium,” which honors many of the greatest track and field athletes ever to participate at the sport’s highest levels.
Coach Bailey — otherwise known as “Bails” to her Hen Hud athletes and students — has coached track and field at Hendrick Hudson High School for over 50 years. She began her teaching and coaching career in 1974 and retired as a math teacher in 2018. Even after her retirement, Bailey continued to coach the Sailor track and field and cross-country teams. She has coached thousands of athletes in the sport, providing our student-athletes with a vast array of experiences.
During her tenure, Bailey has coached the Sailors to numerous league titles and county championships. She has had hundreds of individual athletes win sectional and county championships and qualify for state meets. Bailey also coached two athletes to New York state championships: Kim Fogarty won the state title in the pentathlon in 1999 and Kevin Alford captured the 2000 state title in the same event.
Bailey has been instrumental in the growth of the sport across the state in both indoor and outdoor seasons, making her one of New York’s most respected high school track and field coaches. She has been involved with the local and statewide coaches’ associations that plan the various seasons and events across the state.
At Hendrick Hudson, Bailey still spends long hours coaching student-athletes on a daily basis, whether that is during cross-country season in the fall, indoor track and field season in the winter, or outdoor track and field season in the spring.
“To have a coach make the impact that she has made on our community for over five decades is unheard of,” Hendrick Hudson Athletic Director Tom Baker said. “She is a true Sailor! What I find most impressive about her is her commitment and dedication to the entire Hendrick Hudson community. She not only dedicates herself to the track and field program, but she is always looking out for the best for our entire community. I am honored to have worked so closely with her.
“The Armory Coaches Hall of Fame is a very prestigious honor,” Baker added. “She deserves this recognition and it will be very nice that day to see her inducted with her team present.”
Hen Hud will compete that day in the Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational.
Both the meet and the induction will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21 at The Nike Track and Field at the Armory, which is located at 216 Fort Washington Avenue in New York City. The ceremony is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
Further information about the event can be found on the Armory’s website.
