Hendrick Hudson High School’s Fun-Filled Winter Carnival a Cultural Celebration
There was music, games, dancing, crafts and tasty treats available for students and staff members who attended Hendrick Hudson High School’s annual Winter Carnival Thursday afternoon in the school cafeteria. The event was co-sponsored by the ENL and World Language Departments and welcomed more than 50 students for an hour of fun.
Those on hand posed for pictures in a photo booth, entered into a raffle, tried international foods and sweets, and paired up to dance as music blared from nearby speakers. Students also played ring toss and Cornhole games.
There was a craft table situated on one end of the cafeteria where students made paper flowers, which are a popular decoration in Mexico. The World Language Department also had students selling Pulseras, which are colorful bracelets that are important in Hispanic cultures.
In addition to crafts and games, there plenty of foods to sample, offerings that included empanadas, fruit dipped in Chamoy sauce, and Chuchitos, a traditional Guatemalan tamale made with steamed corn husks stuffed with chicken and a tomato-based sauce.
