Hendrick Hudson Musicians Well-Represented at NYSSMA Area All-State Music Festival
This past weekend, an impressive number of students from Hendrick Hudson High School — 16 in total — performed at the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Westchester County Area All-State Festival at New Rochelle High School.
Each year, students throughout Westchester County — from sophomores to seniors — are selected to participate in the Area All-State Festival based on their NYSSMA adjudication scores and teacher recommendations. With only a handful of practices together, these exemplary musicians come together under nationally renowned conductors and perform at a level typically associated with professional musicians.
“We are so proud to have had three soloists from Hendrick Hudson perform at the concert,” Choir Director Erica Denler said. Senior Nava Minichino and junior Alexandra Numeroff were both selected to be featured as soloists in the Mixed Choir, and junior Nikko Bianchi played a violin solo with the String Orchestra.
In addition to the outstanding level of student involvement, Hendrick Hudson was also proudly represented by Denler, and our Orchestra Director, Lauren Morabito, who both served as Area All-State Co-Chairs in the Mixed Choir and String Orchestra, respectively. Kimberly Dunkin, a music teacher at Blue Mountain Middle School, was present as the NYSSMA Zone Representative for the region.
