Hendrick Hudson Senior Honored with Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Oakley Gougelmann received a scholarship from the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce.

During a breakfast with the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning, Hendrick Hudson senior Oakley Gougelmann was honored as the district’s scholarship award winner.

Oakley was celebrated — along with one graduating senior from Lakeland, Peekskill, Putnam Valley, Croton-Harmon, Walter Panas, Kennedy Catholic and Yorktown High Schools — during the organization’s Foundation Scholarship Breakfast at the Holy Mountain Franciscan Retreat Center in Garrison.

Oakley, who has committed to study psychology at the University of Tennessee in the fall, applied to the Chamber of Commerce with an essay and letters of recommendation. Over 80 students from the eight high schools applied, and she was chosen from the group of Hendrick Hudson applicants.

The academic and vocational scholarships are awarded to one senior from each district who plans on pursuing advanced-level education after high school. The scholarship winners are chosen based on academic record; leadership; extracurricular activities in the student’s school and community; honors, awards and recognitions received; and work experience.
