Hendrick Hudson Welcomes Back Staff to Launch 2024-25 School Year
The entire Hendrick Hudson School District faculty and staff gathered in the high school auditorium for the annual Superintendent’s Convocation, which launched the 2024-25 school year. It was the first event of its kind hosted by Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee, who joined the district last October.
Dr. Steven Garcia, the new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Leadership Development, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Principals Lauren Scollins, Anthony Giovinazzi, Dr. Cynthia Kramer and Josh Cohen and assistant principal Anecia McGill each introduced new members of the staff and faculty. Dr. Margaret Ruller, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, acknowledged employees who had served 10, 20 and 30-plus years in the district.
Erica Mills addressed the staff for the first time in her new role as President of the Board of Education. She identified the shared values of community, connection, commitment and unity, adding, “Our staff embodies these values.”
“Thank you for your commitment to excellence,” Mills added. “Make this year the best one yet.”
Tromblee began his address with a four-minute slide show that detailed the behind-the-scenes work inside and outside the schools this summer, including reconfiguring Frank G. Lindsey, Buchanan-Verplanck and Furnace Woods Elementary Schools. He told the audience that people were what made Hendrick Hudson a special educational community, and underscored the power each member of the faculty and staff had to make a positive impact on students.
“You have a unique and extraordinary privilege to make a lasting impact,” Tromblee said.
After the Convocation, faculty and staff were invited to a district-provided lunch in the high school cafeteria. They will continue with meetings and have time to set up classrooms the remainder of the week.
The district is scheduled to welcome back students to start the 2024-25 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
