Hendrick Hudson’s Kayla McCarthy Signs to Play Division I Lacrosse
Hendrick Hudson High School senior Kayla McCarthy signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Division I Long Island University. McCarthy has been a mainstay in the lineup for Sailor head coach Rob Porter since joining the varsity team as an eighth grader.
McCarthy’s commitment was celebrated during a signing ceremony on Nov. 14, 2024 at Hendrick Hudson High School.
On the field, McCarthy has achieved All-Section and All-League status while excelling as a high-scoring standout for coach Porter. McCarthy has played attack for Hendrick Hudson, accumulating 117 goals and 54 assists for a total of 171 points through her junior season.
McCarthy still has one season remaining, but Porter expressed how proud he is of her accomplishments already.
“Kayla has been a multi-sport, high-performing athlete for many years,” Porter said. “She has been fully committed to lacrosse since she was in sixth grade. Her stutter-step dodge has been a huge part of her lacrosse game. Her lacrosse IQ and skill has grown each year, and her passion and dedication continue to contribute to her growth. We are so proud of her for her recent commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at Long Island University.”
The Long Island University campus is located in Brookville, N.Y. The women’s lacrosse program competes at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Northeast Conference.
