Hendrick Hudson’s PLTW Community Partners Tour Learning Spaces Used for Award-Winning Program

The Project Lead the Way Partnership Team met on Friday, Dec. 6 in the Hendrick Hudson High School library and held a discussion with members of the local business community who support the district’s award-winning PLTW program.

The presentation was led by PLTW Engineering teachers Thomas Confrey and Alan Zollner; Biomedical Science teachers Dr. Jeanine Hall and Stephanie Geiger; and Computer Science teacher Thomas Yee. They all helped explain the PLTW courses offered at Hendrick Hudson High School, which was named a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School for the seventh straight year, an honor given to schools that provide broad access to transformative learning experiences for students in PLTW programs.
PLTW is a national organization that serves millions of PreK-12 students and teachers in over 12,200 schools across the U.S. and aims to make every student in every grade successful in STEM subjects.
Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee and Hendrick Hudson High School Principal Lauren Scollins and Assistant Principals Nick Katsaris and Maria Pearson were in attendance for the presentation, along with representatives from partners CertainTeed, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, WIN Waste Innovations, and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.
After the initial discussion, the visitors were led on tours of the new BioMed Lab, which opened earlier this year, and the Engineering classroom. They were introduced to how the students and teachers use these spaces and what resources they have available.
Following the tour, the group returned to the library for continued discussion. The PLTW teachers touted their program, stressing how prepared their students are for college and future careers. They also exchanged ideas and answered questions from the visitors.
