Members of Hendrick Hudson High School’s Lit Mag and Reading Club visited Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School on Friday, Nov. 21. The club members volunteered to read to the elementary students as part of the clubs’ common mission to spread the love of literation and the written word.

The Lit Mag focuses on the creation of literary and artistic content, while the Reading Club is dedicated to the appreciation and consumption of literary and creative works.

The president of the Reading Club, Katerina Carvalho, began corresponding in September with third grade teacher Danielle Cohen to organize the event.

“The high schoolers said they loved that the younger students were so attentive and appreciative of the stories, and that they asked questions and eagerly showed how much they could relate to the readings,” said HHHS English teacher Juliana Maye, who advises both clubs.

One student, Henry Ridder, happily reported that he received two hugs from students at the end of his reading, Ms. Maye said. She added that several club members reminisced on the walk back to HHHS, thinking about the simpler times of their childhood when the pleasures of reading were first instilled in them.
