Incoming Hendrick Hudson Kindergarteners Tour Their New Schools

Incoming kindergarteners and their parents visited Buchanan-Verplanck and Furnace Woods Elementary Schools this week for Kindergarten Orientation, which allowed them to prepare for the 2024-25 school year.

Buchanan-Verplanck’s incoming students toured the school on Monday, June 3; future Furnace Woods students paid a visit on Tuesday, June 4. The cohorts spent time with their future teachers and engaged in several activities during the visits, including listening to a story and riding a school bus.

While the students grew comfortable in their new surroundings, parents met with their new principals, who shared important information about Hendrick Hudson’s kindergarten program. Dr. Cynthia Kramer, who currently serves as the Frank G. Lindsey principal, welcomed new families to Buchanan-Verplanck, where she will take over as principal next school year. Josh Cohen, the Furnace Woods principal, welcomed families to his school, which will transition from serving students in Grades 3-5 to PreK-2 when the 2023-24 school year concludes.

The Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation provided each child with a goody bag and a copy of Todd Parr's "Reading Makes Me Feel Good" to take home after orientation.
