Middle School Students Produce PSA Posters, Videos to Promote Cybersecurity
Technology & Communication students in Christine Froman’s class at Blue Mountain Middle School have worked recently on a variety of learning experiences related to Digital Citizenship. Key topics included online safety, online security and cyberbullying.
Throughout the unit, students learned about the best practices for protecting personal information and recognizing online threats. They also learned about the effects of cyberbullying and strategies to prevent and address it.
As part of a culminating project, sixth-grade students created a PSA (Public Service Announcement) post to raise awareness about one of the topics covered in the Digital Citizenship unit. Seventh-grade students produced video PSAs, which involved additional skills. They used scriptwriting and Screencastify, a simple free screen recorder and interactive video platform. The seventh graders chose from a handful of topics that included cyberbullying, cybersecurity and social media balance.
“All students were tasked with creating a message that fostered awareness and advocacy for responsible online behavior for their selected target audience,” Froman said.
Several examples of the posters are included below:
