Whether from district administrators or Board of Education members, newcomers to the Hendrick Hudson School District heard a familiar message this week at New Faculty Orientation: This is a strong community, one that is determined to support them.

“There are so many good people who live here and work here,” said Dr. Steven Garcia, Hendrick Hudson’s Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development. “They really care about the students and what goes on in our schools. They want you to be here and want you to feel supported.”

That support was clear throughout the two-day workshop, which was held in the Hendrick Hudson High School library. There were 15 new staff members who were welcomed by Dr. Garcia, Superintendent Michael A. Tromblee and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Lauren Scollins.

“The whole purpose of this event is to help them learn more about the culture we have here and to learn more about all of the wonderful support that is available to them,” Mr. Tromblee said.

On Monday, Vineetha Joy, the district’s Executive Director of Technology & Innovation, distributed laptops and led a two-plus hour technology bootcamp. In the afternoon, new faculty members heard from Christopher Moreno, the Acting Director of Pupil Personnel Services, before meeting with union leadership.

On Tuesday, the group was addressed by Board of Education president Amelia Silverman, as well as trustees Erica Mills, Tomica Dietrich, Lauren Stanco and Cori Boudin. Ms. Scollins and Dr. Garcia then delved deeper into the philosophy and expectations of the district.

“Our team chose you because we believe in you,” Ms. Scollins said. “We believe in what you can do here at Hendrick Hudson.”
