Students Send Cards, Pictures and Sweets to Troops for the Holidays

Just before Thanksgiving, students at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School participated in a Card-a-Thon. They created greeting cards for U.S. troops that included messages of gratitude, appreciation and merry wishes for the holiday season.

Along with the notes of thanks, the students attached a sweet treat. Each card was accompanied by a packet of hot chocolate mix and a candy cane stirrer.

Catherine Holzman, the school’s STEM and Science teacher, said the cards would reach the troops in time for the holidays thanks to the work of United for the Troops, an organization based in Mahopac that sends care packages to military members stationed overseas.
