Two SAILOR Students Celebrated at This Year’s Sailor Sendoff

Students, teachers, administrators, Board of Education trustees, family, and friends gathered in the Hendrick Hudson High School cafeteria Thursday afternoon to celebrate two special students for completing their time in the school’s SAILOR program.

The annual Sailor Sendoff saluted one Class of 2026 graduate, Eddy, and another program attendee, Loyalty, who recently moved to Peekskill.
“The Sailor Sendoff is a truly special event each year where we get to celebrate, honor and recognize all of the hard work and accomplishments of the students during their years in the SAILOR program, as well as celebrate everyone who has been part of their journey along the way,” teacher Lauren Belles said.
The tradition began in 2022 when the teachers began to reflect on how the students had touched so many lives during their many years in the program. The ceremony is designed to provide a more intimate opportunity to spotlight these students and to mark this important milestone in their lives.

During this year’s event, which included refreshments and party favors, teachers spoke extensively about the students and what made them special. They also handed out awards and gifts before the honorees posed for photos with classmates.
“To Eddy and Loyalty: We are proud of your accomplishments and excited for all that lies ahead,” said Michael A. Tromblee, Superintendent of Schools.
The success of this program is a reflection of the incredible dedication of the staff and the families who walk beside our students every step of the way,” he continued. “The collaborative and caring environment you have created helps students not only learn but truly thrive.”
