  • A. QUARANTINING, CONTACT TRACING AND COVID-19 TESTING

    The following is based on guidance received from the State Department of Health, dated April 22, 2021 (click here to read the full document) and the Westchester County Department of Health (click here to read the full document). (09-21-21)

  • 1. I was exposed to COVID-19. What should I do?

  • 2. What should I monitor for after an exposure to COVID-19?

  • 3. Who handles contact tracing and orders a quarantine?

  • 4. What should I do if my child receives a positive Covid test?

  • 5. If a child tests positive and has an unvaccinated sibling in the school, should the school keep the unvaccinated sibling out of school?

  • 6. Where can students, faculty and staff get tested for COVID-19?

  • 7. What is the criteria for a close contact or an exposure to a COVID-19 case in a school setting?

  • B. HEALTH AND SAFETY 

  • 1. What general health and safety steps will be taken in the school buildings?

  • 2. How well can you disinfect every classroom?

  • 3. Do students and staff have to maintain a three-foot distance from others at all times?

  • 4. What Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) do we have on hand? Is it size appropriate?

  • 5. With students and teachers potentially utilizing more of the outdoor space when weather permits, how can we be assured that the school campus will be safe from external intruders?

  • 6. If a teacher tests positive for COVID, can they continue to teach remotely?

  • 7. When will the schools be cleaned if there is in-person instruction every day?

  • C. FACE COVERINGS

  • 1. Are face coverings required for the 2021-22 school year?

  • 2. Will the district enforce mask wearing whenever possible, even when at three feet?

  • 3. Is there a mask that the school recommends?

  • 4. What are the exceptions to the requirement that face coverings be worn?

  • 5. What happens if a student, employee or anyone else does not wear a mask?

  • 6. When students’ masks are off for lunch and someone sneezes or coughs, does that undo all of the protective measures put into place since the particles stay in the air for up to three hours?

  • 7. Will there be mask breaks?

  • D. VENTILATION

  • 1. What is the District doing to address ventilation concerns?

  • 2. Does each school have the proper and up-to-code ventilation system?

  • 3. Has the district considered running the HVAC system at maximum outside airflow for two hours before and after occupied times?

  • 4. Has the district considered using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplemental technique to inactivate potential airborne virus?

  • 5. Can portable air conditioning units be procured for warmer days when mask-wearing will be more uncomfortable for students and staff?

  • 6. Has the District consulted with outside agencies regarding HVAC systems and air quality?

  • 7. Has the District considered MERV-13 or higher filters?

  • 8. Does the District plan to use HEPA UV filtration and UV/C disinfection technology in classrooms?

  • 9. Is the District monitoring indoor air quality in the schools?

  • E. THE SCHOOL DAY

  • 1. What is the plan for students attending BOCES programs, including the Tech Center?

  • 2. Will students be eating in the cafeteria at school?

  • 3. What will the school day look like for elementary students?

  • 4. Are students required to be socially distant while consuming meals in the cafeteria or classroom?

  • 5. Will recess be allowed at the elementary schools? What will recess look like at the elementary and middle schools?

  • 6. Will students have PE, art, music and other electives? Can parents opt out of PE for their child based on safety concerns?

  • 7. Will athletics and extracurricular activities be permitted in the fall?

  • 8. Will students have to be up-to-date with their immunizations?

  • 9. Will electives be eliminated?

  • 10. How will occupational and physical therapy (OT/PT), speech and other services be delivered?

  • 11. What plans are being made for students to visit schools prior to the in-person start date?

  • 12. What will snow or excessive heat days look like? Will everyone learn/teach remotely on those days?

  • F. COMMUNICATION

  • 1. How often can the community expect details and specific updates on what is happening and what plans are being made? How will these updates be issued?

  • 2. Is it possible schools may be remote for a period of time?

  • G. TRANSPORTATION

  • 1. Will students be required to wear masks on school buses?

  • 2. When will we receive information on transportation for my child?

  • 3. How will students who attend the BOCES Tech Center be transported to the high school and to the Tech Center?

  • 4. Will monitors be assigned to buses?

  • H. ADDITIONAL INFO

  • 1. Will district facilities be available to external individual, organizations or entities?

  • 2. Will all schools continue to conduct safety drills?

  • 3. Are any potential changes being made to the school’s evacuation plan in the event of a nuclear emergency in the area?

  • 4. Are there any requirements for quarantine following travel?
