Moving Up Ceremony at Frank G. Lindsey
“The sun always shines on Frank G. Lindsey,” said Principal Donna Torrisi, at the start of the school’s fifth grade Moving Up ceremony on June 23, also the last day of school in the district. Indeed, while other end-of-year ceremonies earlier in the week had to be maneuvered around potential showers, the sun peeked out from the clouds just as the middle school-bound students arrived on the school’s blacktop to the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance.”

Hall of Fame Highlights Women’s History
After studying women’s suffrage this spring, students in Kerri Houlahan and Halette Sharkey’s fourth grade class at FGL decided to create a “Women’s Hall of Fame” and induct some famous women in history. “The students said that they loved learning about the impact these women had on society,” said Houlahan.

Kindergarten Showcase at FGL
FGL kindergarten classes sang and danced during the school’s end-of-year Kindergarten Showcase, eager to perform for their family members. The showcase is a tradition that started during the 2016-2017 school year. While it was paused for a few years due to Covid, the event returned this month, with the students performing outside on a recent beautiful sunny afternoon.

BenQ Panels Lend Unique Flexibility to Elementary Classrooms
There’s a new interactive flat panel showing up in Hen Hud elementary school classrooms, and early reviews are nothing but positive. BenQ panels have been in place for a few weeks at Furnace Woods and Buchanan-Verplanck and are scheduled for installation at Frank G. Lindsey over the summer. Teachers are giving the panels high marks for ease of use and functionality.

Five Hen Hud Athletes Compete at Spring Track and Field State Championships
Earlier this month, five HHHS student-athletes qualified for the New York State Track and Field Championships. The championships took place on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11, in Syracuse, NY. The Sailors who qualified for this prestigious meet were: Morgan Davis, Karli Martin, Madeline McKinle, John Sterner and Jonathon Wong.

Field Day Flash Mob at Furnace Woods
Furnace Woods staff kicked off the school’s Field Day event on June 10 with an unexpected treat for their students: a flash mob, set to “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. Music teacher Mary Landry choreographed the joyful performance, with staff secretly rehearsing in the weeks leading up to Field Day.

For the Fifth Year in a Row, Hendrick Hudson High School is Named a PLTW Distinguished School
Hendrick Hudson High School has been recognized as a 2021-22 Project Lead the Way Distinguished School for the fifth year in a row - the only high school in New York State to do so. The Distinguished School designation recognizes schools that provide students with broad access to transformative learning opportunities through PLTW’s Computer Science, Biomedical Science and Engineering programs.

The seventh annual issue of The North Star, Hen Hud’s literary magazine, was released on June 1st, after months of hard work spent selecting, editing, organizing, and formatting its diverse content into a beautiful collection of creative pieces.
