On Monday, March 13, 15 Hen Hud students attended the 30th Annual Young Authors Conference, hosted by PNW BOCES, at Westchester Community College. The students, accompanied by creative writing teacher and literary magazine advisor Mrs. Maye, were all chosen for their passion and skill in the area of creative writing.
Each young writer was able to attend three different workshops over the course of the day, ranging in topics from poetry writing to novel publishing to screenplay crafting, all of which were led by writing professionals from various fields.
Over 360 students from twenty-four different high schools in the greater Hudson Valley were in attendance at the conference, and the day was a huge success. In the words of Fred Ende, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction at BOCES and lead facilitator of the event, the conference is staying true to its original philosophy of “supporting young writers in further honing their craft and celebrating all that writing is and can be.”
Two seniors, Maddie Lentino and Dan Maloney, also attended last year’s conference and were then chosen to attend a Master Class in writing and editing earlier this school year.
