Hen Hud Students Perform at All-County Chorus Concert
Twenty-two Hendrick Hudson students in grades 4-8 participated in the Westchester All-County Chorus concert at SUNY Purchase on Saturday, March 2. The young singers learned challenging repertoire and performed with some of the best vocalists in the county. Under the direction of conductors Eric Williamson from the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Leon Whyte from Mamaroneck Schools, the students performed 10 pieces demonstrating their hard work and commitment.
This year’s participants were: Bella Colon, Maggie Johannsen, Braedan Mulligan, Olivia Tran (BV); Aditi Gore, Samantha Laug, Mariella Mills, Alexandra Numeroff (FGL); Daniel Basini, Olivia Berkman, Griffin Rose, Michael Socorro (FWS); Marcus Bonilla, Jocelyn Cuzco, Alec Elkin, Lucy Notrica, Bixby Piccolo-Hill, Magda Przybylowska, Giulianna Reid, Lexi Schaffer, Gabriel Sotomayor, and Amy Wilkinson (BMMS).
The concert program included a madrigal from the 1500s; a traditional gospel song; an arrangement of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water;” a classical aria; and songs in Hebrew, Spanish, Swahili, and Latin. The students spent many hours after school learning the music with music teachers Juliet Soricelli (BV), Rebecca Correllus (FGL), Mary Landry (FWS) and Kimberly Dunkin (BMMS). Mrs. Dunkin was the piano accompanist for the event.
FWS music teacher Mary Landry accompanied on violin for a Hebrew song about peace. “It was a joy to see the pride our students took in learning such a challenging program,” she said. “This festival is a testament of the power of music to bring people together.”
This was the first year that B-V students participated, thanks to new music teacher Juliet Soricelli. “I feel honored to have students take part in such a special program. It was an incredible experience to watch our students challenge themselves and grow into exceptional young musicians," said Soricelli.
“It was such a pleasure to work with these young singers,” said FGL music teacher Rebecca Correllus. “I hope that this artistic experience inspires a lifelong enjoyment of choral singing in them.”
The concert is held every March, which coincides with Music in Our Schools Month.
