Elementary Schools Remember 9-11

Hendrick Hudson Elementary Schools Remember 9/11 with Special Ceremonies, Activities

Students in the Hendrick Hudson School District’s three elementary schools participated in a variety of activities designed to commemorate September 11.

At Frank G. Lindsey Elementary, students and staff gathered with local first responders as their honored guests. “We pay tribute to all those first responders who risk their lives to protect us,” said Principal Donna Torrisi. “We can do and become anything we want in this country because of the people who sacrifice to help keep us safe.” A group of fifth grade students led the crowd in singing the “The Star Spangled Banner,” and members of the police and fire departments lowered the flag to half-mast in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

At Furnace Woods Elementary, students and staff participated in a moment of silence at the beginning of the day. And at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary, students and staff gathered for the school’s eighth annual Day of Service and Remembrance ceremony. The ceremony honored the local and state police, fire department and EMT workers. Representatives from the departments were on hand, and students presented their honored guests with gifts.
