Two Hen Hud Seniors Take First Prize in Sports Medicine Skills Competition

Seniors Sarah Mandelkow and Kerann Belvu, both Sports Medicine students at the Tech Center at Putnam | Northern Westchester, were awarded first place in the recent SkillsUSA regional competition, in the Open Job Skills Demonstration category. The students impressed the judges with their superior hands-on skills.

“The job skill they performed was sideline-concussion protocol,” said their CTE teacher at BOCES, Dr. Will Brightman. “The skills they demonstrated included a battery of tests such as the recognition and evaluation of a concussion. It was a really nice accomplishment by the students.”

Sarah and Kerann did their demonstration live over Zoom and were assisted by a classmate from Croton, who acted as the patient as they explained and demonstrated concussion protocol.
