High School Bookstore Adds New Sign and New Options for Students
The bookstore at Hendrick Hudson High School is back — and it’s poised to be better than ever.
The Sailors Shop, which is located in The Captains Quarters, is in the process of an overhaul, with new products on the way for Hen Hud students. To signify the change, the entrance to the store has been outfitted with a new sign — a rotating digital display located across from the entrance to the cafeteria — that advisors hope can make it more of a destination.
“When COVID hit, the store was closed,” said Linda Cabral Marrero, a co-advisor of the Bookstore Club. “Most of the kids here really had no idea where it was.”
That should change thanks to the presence of the new sign, which was paid for by a grant from the Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation.
“We have to give many thanks to them,” Cabral Marrero said. “We really hope this can raise awareness.”
The bookstore is currently stocked with school supplies and textbooks, but there are plans to add spirit wear — items like shirts, hats, and lanyards — as well as other products.
“We’re rebranding to better reflect the needs of our students,” said co-advisor Christina Feal, who mentioned Chromebook covers as a likely possibility.
The bookstore will hold a grand reopening. That would not only be highlighted by new products but additional features on the new sign. The advisors said they hope to include QR codes, which could lead to increased interaction from students.
“We hope to have the reopening in January,” Feal said. “New year, new store.”
